Twisted Teens were one of my favorite discoveries of 2024<\/a>. Their debut full-length tape slowly but surely became an underground success story \u2014 helped by a relentless tour schedule (seriously, catch them live if you can, they\u2019re electric) \u2014 and eventually got the vinyl treatment.<\/p>\n

Now, they\u2019re back with the EU EP <\/em>on Jazz Life, recorded this summer in the UK during a short but inspired session. It\u2019s great to finally hear new material. The six songs here don\u2019t feel like leftovers from the debut, nor do they mark a dramatic shift. Twisted Teens still mix folk, punk, blues, garage, and rock \u2019n\u2019 roll into their own mystical brew \u2014 equal parts old school and next wave. That signature sound is still\u00a0here: Cas P. Ian\u2019s spellbinding vocals, Ramon Joseph Santos\u2019 slide guitar, and that unmistakable sense of spontaneity and ramshackle charm.<\/p>\n

If anything, EU EP<\/em> sounds a bit more relaxed and polished, like a band growing into its power. For me, the highlights are the drumroll-backed opener Graveyard<\/em>, the singalong single Everyone<\/em>, and the old-timey instrumental closer Fire Waltz With Me<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The band from New Orleans announced the EP with a promise, \u201cwe\u2019re about to start dropping a ridiculous amount of music, so here\u2019s an appetizer.\u201d Well, if this is just the appetizer, I\u2019m clearing the table and bringing a bigger plate.<\/p>\n
