The first four songs on the new Yeah Maybe EP are titled I Hate Who I Am, I Wanna Die, I Have Thoughts of Suicide<\/em>, and Can’t Go On Anymore<\/em>. To state that the Tacoma (Washington) three-piece have taken a dark turn would be an understatement. I first got to know the band as a slacker rock outfit with a strong knack for melody<\/a>. Their sophomore outing was equal parts indie rock, grunge, and punk rock<\/a>. But their new EP sounds like Kurt Cobain and Rivers Cuomo teaming up to write a sequel to Pinkerton <\/em>and In Utero<\/em>. It has buzzing distorted guitars, and the singing sounds a lot like pain trying to find a melody\u2014often succeeding, by the way.<\/p>\n

The I Don’t Feel Human Anymore<\/em> EP is a brutally honest record, with a singer-songwriter openly fighting his demons using his craft as therapy. The result is a powerful form of emotional spillage through art, with cathartic moments and gut punches around every corner. The closing title track is beautiful yet heartbreaking.<\/p>\n

I wasn’t sure, given its heavy nature, whether I should write about this record. I am still not sure. But this one is special and deserves an audience. After checking in with its creator, it felt okay to share it here.<\/p>\n
