In an era where bands tease releases with endless breadcrumbs, it\u2019s refreshing when one skips the fanfare and drops a new record out of the blue. That\u2019s exactly what Red Pants did today with the release of their Pale Shadows<\/em> EP. This serves as a follow-up to last year\u2019s Not Quite There Yet<\/em> but also feels like an extension of that record. The first two tracks, To The Deep End<\/em> and Proto Punk<\/em>, were originally meant for the album but were shelved to maintain its concise feel. No complaints here\u2014I wouldn\u2019t change a thing<\/a> about that one.<\/p>\n

Central to this EP is a rescue mission by Jason Lambeth, who makes up one-half of Red Pants (the other being award-winning author Elsa Nekola). Lambeth shared: “The whole EP came about when I thought I had lost these leftover recordings. We use an old 2009 laptop to record, and when it suddenly wouldn\u2019t start up, I thought the songs were gone for good. After reviving it, I was able to rescue everything. We added some finishing touches and put together our five favorite tracks for this EP.”<\/p>\n

Like last year\u2019s album, Pale Shadows<\/em> is a captivating collection of dreamy, indie rock that channels classic influences like Yo La Tengo and Sonic Youth while still carving out its own sound. Worth getting lost in, indeed. EP out now on Lambeth’s own Painted Blonde label.<\/p>\n
