Legendary New York garage rock band The Chesterfield Kings<\/a>, founded in the late 70s, are back with their first full-length album in fifteen years, a welcome new chapter in their already powerful discography<\/a>. Before you’ve even listened to it, its title reassures you: We’re Still All The Same<\/em><\/a>. At least that was my thought (opening track What’s The Value Of Time<\/em> ties in with that), because Andy Babiuk, Mike Boise, Jeff Okolowicz, Ted Okolowicz and John Cammarosano still deliver a raw and electrifying blend of 60s psych and punk with gritty guitar riffs, driving rhythms and catchy melodies, layered with charismatic vocals that evoke a sense of both nostalgia and urgency. There appears to be more to the title song, frontman Babiuk explains: “It’s a social statement about people and humanity in general. People should stop fighting about religion, politics, race and everything else and realize that we may have different opinions or ideologies but in the big picture of things it really doesn’t matter. We actually have more things in common and in the end we’re really still all the same.” That only makes it better, but it’s also true that the fourteen songs here sound characteristic and recognizable. The band reportedly used quite a few vintage amps and keyboards, even over 50 old guitars, which explains the authenticity. Anyhow, this record is cool and timeless, as always.<\/p>\n
