Like mushrooms, quality underground pop bands keep poppin’ up on the fertile grounds of the SF Bay area. Aluminum are the latest type. Or should I say hype, since the band’s sound surely will enthuse fans of classic bands like MBV, Go Betweens and The Feelies.<\/p>\n
Aluminum are guitarist\/vocalist Marc Leyda (Wild Moth), bassist\/vocalist Ryann Gonsalves (Torrey), guitarist Austin Montanari (Nothing Natural), and drummer Chris Natividad (Marbled Eye). On the Windowpane EP<\/em>, Aluminum aren’t afraid to press their guitar pedals and gaze at their shoes, but sound more clear eyed and welcoming than the average shoegaze band. That is particularly the case for the title track, which in a just world would be a major radio hit. The other songs are pretty great as well and suggest that Aluminum know exactly what they are doing and are only getting started.<\/p>\n If there is any knock on the Aluminum EP it’s that out of six songs two are short interludes. We need more songs, Aluminum!\u00a0The Windowpane EP<\/em> is out now through the increasingly great Dandy Boy Records.<\/p>\n
