Scottish sophisticated pop band The Orchids<\/a>, started in 1986 and successful with Sarah Records, are back with a new album – their first since 2014 – that you shouldn’t put aside too quickly. At first listen you think Dreaming Kind<\/em><\/a> offers classic, understated indie pop, but if you put on your headphones and pay more attention to the thirteen new tracks, you’ll hear that they contain a deeper layer of electronic rhythms, uplifting harmony vocals, alienating soundscapes and an occasional guitar solo reaching for the spotlight. Ronnie Borland (bass, keyboards, guitar, backing vocals), James Hackett (lyrics, vocals, acoustic guitar, melodica), Chris Quinn (drums, percussion), John Scally (lead guitar, keyboards) and Keith Sharp (rhythm guitar), with guests Ian Carmichael (keyboards, rhythm programming), Pauline Hynds Bari (vocals) and Paul Quinn (percussion), immerse you in an ambient dream world that makes your real environment just that little bit more bearable. Producer Ian Carmichael has subtly accentuated the drama of the songs, with an enlightened choreography that leaves the tenderness of the music in tact.
