The Etters have quickly become one of the Netherlands’ hottest export products, even though most people abroad probably won’t understand what all their filthy Dutch words mean. Surely, the U.S. commission handing out parental advisory stickers will end up red-faced and traumatized once their translation machine spits out the English version. I can already picture the emergency meeting. Calls will be made. Bans seem likely.
Luckily, The Etters’ brand of garage punk operates in a niche of its own. It’s so raw, dumb and exciting that it could only have been created by real human beings.
The three new songs are all on their first release for Wap Shoo Wap Records, and they’re so short that the label decided to put them all on Side A of the 7″. This fits the triple-A-side quality of the content, and saves at least one act of flipping the record over to replay it.
At least two contain illegal behaviour in various forms, while the final song is an ode to thrift stores. It is another fine display of how The Etters turn depravity into an art form, while giving the garage punk scene a good kick in the nuts.
Kopschoppen is already streaming on several services, and the 7″ is out tomorrow.
