Cashell is the electro-indie-surf-pop solo project of Edinburgh-based singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Ryan Cashell. In his home studio he wrote and recorded his debut album, intriguingly titled If, by chance, estranged…, composed of eleven tracks with jangly guitars and expressive vocals over remarkably rich arrangements.

The sound is lo-fi yet inviting and atmospheric, with a few clouds permanently lingering at the edges of the sunlit melodies. The lyrics dwell on growing into yourself and watching places change, but even when the words are commonplace, they feel expansive (unforgettable: “Take it easy my friend // Take it easy”). Discoveries like this are precisely why we love having a place to share them.

If, by chance, estranged…—written, performed, and recorded by Ryan Cashell—is out digitally, on CD and vinyl LP, through Cashroc Records.
