Just when you thought Surfasaurus had exhausted the prehistoric puns and instrumental surf possibilities, the Miramichi, New Brunswick-based crew return with a second collection of infectious guitar excursions. Three years after their Dino​-​Might! LP, the thirteen new songs on Fossil Fuel once again prove that instrumental surf doesn’t need a single vocal to tell a story: the twang, tremolo and unexpected turns seem to send another scene flashing past the windshield. Judging by titles like Surf Moons And Silver Spoons, Riding Shotgun, Eye Spy and Zombie Surf Club, this time the road trip gets even more dangerous. There’s a playful sense of motion throughout, as if the album were the soundtrack to a sun-baked drive where the scenery keeps getting weirder but the destination doesn’t really matter. Buckle up and enjoy this hot ride.
