Would the world be a better place if every state had its own riff? It is a fair question, and at the very least it would be a fun idea. You know what else has been a great idea? Bloated Kat Records! TV Cop’s The State Riff Of Iowa is the label’s 100th (!) release, and the ATW crew would like to send a well-aimed congrats to the label.
Bloated Kat definitely is up there among the most-reviewed labels here. Their specialty is what they have dubbed “dirt pop,” which is most easily explained as the good kind of pop punk. The old-school kind. You know, the kind that belongs on Mutant Pop and Lookout!
TV Cop are far from the fastest band in the dirt-pop roster though, going for something less straightforward and infusing it with a riff here and a dynamic spin there. Works wonders here. Oh, and that State Riff? It is a good on! Apparently, over the next several months, TV Cop aims to play the riff in front of landmarks across all 99 counties in Iowa, which may be true or false.
Spread the gospel, lads!
