New album: The Masonics || You Can Tell, It’s…

Medway's rhythm 'n' beat veterans still setting the ballroom alight

High-energy rhythm ‘n’ beat with fat guitar chords, rattling drums, and catchy harmonies: You Can Tell, It’s The Masonics. Thirty-five years on from their eponymous debut LP, Mickey Hampshire (The Milkshakes, and more), Bruce Brand (Thee Headcoats, and more), and John Gibbs (The Kaisers, and more) still reign as the Kings Of Medway Beat.

By popular demand, the sixteen covers from four recent 7″ EPs (2023’s Talkin’ About… and Lookin’ For…, and 2025’s Nothin’ Shakin’ But… and Some Other Guys) are now gathered together on one full-length compilation, twelve inches of raw rock ‘n’ roll swagger, which still had room for two additional cuts. It’s an exciting journey through classics that by no means all have that status (such as The Nightriders’ Lookin’ for My Baby from 1959, Eddie Fontaine’s Nothin’ Shakin’ (But The Leaves On The Trees) from 1958, and Chuck Berry’s Thirty Days (To Come Back Home) from 1955), each one primed to shake the dance floor. Garage grit and fuzzed-out groove at full throttle.

You Can Tell, It’s The Masonics—recorded and mastered by Jim Riley—is out now digitally, on CD and vinyl LP, through Spinout Nuggets. Featuring Mickey Hampshire (vocals, guitar), John Gibbs (bass, vocals), and Bruce Brand (drums, percussion, vocals), with Miss Ludella Black on backing vocals.
