Local Weatherman are an indie rock quartet who seem to carry several corners of my record collection in their back pocket. On their new EP Right One, which follows their 2023 self-titled debut album, you’ll hear throwback indie rock (Weighing), ’90s geek rock / power pop (standout The Hole), and anthemic indie punk with a Joyce Manor glow (Thread).
The band namechecks Pavement, Guided By Voices, and Blink-182 as influences, and that easy, matter-of-fact charm runs through the whole release. Nothing earth-shattering here, just a band who know their strengths and do it really well.
Right One is out now on CD and cassette via Karol Records.
