Denes Bieberic (aka Dee Bee Rich) is one of the hardest-working people in the German punk scene, juggling bands like Benzin, Pigeon, Liiek and several others. His solo project DBR has already delivered plenty of great stuff, but this new one feels like the big one. Unbearable (out now on Phantom Records) compiles ten songs of punk brilliance.
Think late ’70s punk energy colliding with contemporary egg punk and ’80s post-punk/new-wave quirks. Smirk, Gee Tee, and Tee Vee Repairmann are fair touchstones, but DBR quickly escapes easy comparison. Unbearable isn’t your average punk tape. There’s a richness here that’s genuinely surprising. Denes stretches the idea of what a punk record can sound like, and makes it feel exciting again.
