It’s the now sound for yesterday’s kids. That’s how The Lucky Shots describe their music—I’m guessing they don’t mind if we also think of it as yesterday’s sound for now-kids. The four-piece from Sacramento, California—more than two decades into their career—return with Clearly Opaque, a record that proves power pop is alive, well, and still infectious.

Songwriters Brent Seavers (vocals, guitar) and Ted Murdock (vocals, guitar), along with Laura Seavers (bass, vocals) and Andrew Seavers (drums), deliver 14 appealing 3-minute tunes with chiming 12-string guitars, fuzzed-out leads, tight vocal harmonies, and sharp hooks. The lyrics thread frustration and hope, tackling deception, disconnection, and political absurdity while still finding reasons to believe, and reach for something real.

This is classic pop craftsmanship, yet grounded in the immediacy of garage rock and the energy of pop punk—a confident statement from a band that knows exactly where its heart (and history) lies.
