My lord! We must’ve cashed in some serious cosmic credit, because Out In The Street — the second LP from Japan’s Angel Face — feels like a reward for good behavior.  The band already had us hooked with their debut LP and single, but here they’ve somehow found another gear. Spin the first two tracks — Searching for the Truth and Let Me Go — and you’ll be checking your bank balance before you even finish browsing the Slovenly Recordings store.

Formed around Fink (Teengenerate, Firestarter, Raydios), Rayco (Ruler, Triple Junk), and Toyozo (The Fadeaways), Angel Face are that rare thing: a supergroup that actually lives up to the idea. They play with the shared conviction of people who know exactly what kind of band they want to be — a late-’70s punk outfit with enough melody to hook the power pop kids and enough chaos to make you forget about The Replacements for a minute. And you know what? They’ve got the chops to pull it off — and then some.

To say this is essential stuff would be an understatement. File this under: reasons you still believe in rock-’n’-roll.
