New album: Prewn || System

Restless nights turned into haunting soundscapes

Prewn is the solo project of Northampton, Massachusetts-based singer-songwriter Izzy Hagerup. With her sophomore full-length System, we’ve been granted access to her private journal. She wrote and recorded these nine new songs alone, mostly in late-night bedroom sessions that stretched until dawn (this experimental indie folk flourishes best in this time frame), and the intimacy is undeniable. The record is stark, uncompromising, and strangely magnetic—the marriage of relatable lyrics with such vulnerable and honest vocals, and added strings and synths, is touching.

Opening track Easy draws you in with a mood that is shadowed but not suffocating—there’s a restless energy that keeps pulling the listener forward for the entire 32 minutes of the album. The arrangements are sparse yet compelling, full of wiry edges and unexpected lightness. Together we wander without getting lost.

System is out now digitally and on vinyl LP through Exploding In Sound Records.
