Beth Seymour is on a mission. Just weeks ago, she released You Wouldn’t Like It Inside My Head as Beth Seymour & The Lizzies—a heavy, autobiographical record that still managed to uplift. That LP is the first in a planned series, with its follow-up already scheduled for next month. Wedged in between is Hot for Hormones, the debut from Hormones, written entirely by Seymour and performed with her bandmates: Jim Jim Hormone on bass, Stuey Hormone on drums, Joseph Ling on vocals, and Beth (here as Betty Hormone) on guitar.
This time Seymour taps the Ramones’ songbook for inspiration, but flips the script. Instead of singing about happy families or not wanting to go down to basements, the Hormones write about coming out of the closet, telling your parents they don’t have a son, and navigating the realities of transition. By design, Hormones take a politicized topic and strip it of slogans, making it personal, funny, and painfully real all at once. They balance self-deprecation with honesty, humor with heartbreak, empathy with defiance — a reminder that being trans isn’t a debate, it’s a lived experience. And through it all, they keep the pogo front and center, as if to say: it’s not a Hormones revolution if you can’t bounce and scream along to it.
And that you will—these are super sweet and addictive pop punk hits, impossible to sit still through.
Update 3/27/1026: This record is now available on LP courtesy of Stardumb Records!
