Take a spin through the four-song debut EP Side X Side and it’s immediately clear: The Needmores (fronted by Lenny Grassa of the pretty amazing Popular Creeps) are devoted students of power pop. More than that, they’ve mastered it. On the title track, Lookin’, and Echoes, they hit that sweet spot between classic rock and punk rock where, in my opinion, the best power pop has always lived. It’s a zone that punk purists might dismiss as not loud or fast enough, while classic rock diehards will claim the hooks overshadow the solos. But that in-between space? That’s where The Needmores thrive — and on Side X Side, they make a convincing case that it’s the place to be.
