The Sugar Beats are a punk rock trio from Wollongong, Australia, featuring Morgana Ancone (vocals, guitars), Sara Graye (bass, vocals), and Adam Vines (drums)—previously in Fangin’ Felines, Boxing With Ghosts, Morgana And The Monstars, Nitocris, Thee Evil Twin, The Strike Outs. The new band’s eponymous debut record sounds exactly as you expect (or hope) based on the flammable cover art. That’s right, a sweet frenzy with heavy riffs, pounding beats, and powerhouse vocals, full of energy and hooks.
Among the eleven songs—35 minutes in total—is a new take on their own (the Fangin’ Felines’) Beat To My Heart, and a cover of Madonna’s Burning Up, which blend seamlessly with the catchy originals, that easily incorporate elements of both shiny glam rock and gritty blues. Tight and sticky.
The Sugar Beats’ self-titled debut album is out now digitally, on CD and vinyl LP, through Vi-nil Records.
