LA-based sloppy punk rocker Xray Xeroxx is clearly on a mission. I’m still trying to figure out exactly what that mission is, but it definitely involves writing and releasing a whole lot of music. The one-man act only made his debut this spring, and now summer arrives with a full-length tape. Nevermind, Whatever includes the Bored and Loving It EP we wrote about recently, the hit single Somebody Put PCP in My Clam Chowder, and eight new songs.

About that mission—maybe it’s putting the fun back into punk? Xray Xeroxx isn’t afraid to go full moron when it fits the song, and his lo-fi take on punk feels totally authentic. The lyrics have a nice mix of irony and self-deprecation, with a real knack for comedy. Or maybe I’m overthinking it. It just sounds like he’s having a blast.

Take Search and Destroy, a song built entirely from the titles of songs by The Clash, The Stooges, Ramones, Beastie Boys, Green Day, and Talking Heads. Or a love song that includes the line: “well you could be with an astronaut or you could love anyone that you want, you wanna be with a grumpy motherfucker, this motherfucker, I’m a lucky motherfucker.” Other lyrical topics include boredom, TV brainrot, noise complaints, and the universal feeling of “I only got one thing // problems // even when I got nothing at all // I got // I got problems.”

Relatable dude, this Xray Xeroxx. And he throws a fine little pogo punk party.
