New single: Whitney’s Playland || Long Rehearsal

Bay Area pop that sticks on first spin

Sunset Sea Breeze, the debut LP from Whitney’s Playland (yes, another Bay Area gem), took its sweet time to win me over. There was something there—I just had to grow into it. But with Long Rehearsal, their new 7” single and first recording as a full band, it’s an instant connection.

The title track kicks things off with a jangle that’s straight out of the classic indie pop playbook—bright, breezy, and deeply summery. And man, can Inna Showalter sing. Only Daughter follows with a crunchier, fuzzier alt-pop edge. The guitar lick and chord progression serve as a hook of their own, making it a natural fit for your next underground radio slot.

On the flip, Talk stretches out for five minutes, weaving quiet-loud dynamics into a slow-burner that broadens the band’s sonic palette. Some might even prefer this B-side to the punchy A-side. Either way, this is a strong release from a band that keeps getting better.

Co-released by Dandy Boy Records (Oakland) and Meritorio Records (Madrid).
