New single: Friends of Cesar Romero || Can’t Get You

FOCR hit peak pop on installment 45 of the Doomed Babe Series

It makes perfect sense that installment 45 of the increasingly impressive Doomed Babe Series is a double A-side single, doesn’t it? In hindsight, installment 33 not being a full-length record almost feels like a missed opportunity for Friends of Cesar Romero—but I digress.

J Waylon is in top form on this one. At this point, we all know he can flip between garage rock, power pop, and punk rock with ease, often blending the styles on a single release. But if you’re into FOCR at their sweetest and poppiest, this is the one. Can’t Get You flirts with bubblegum pop punk territory—it’s that irresistibly catchy. Do we need more songs about not being able to shake someone from your mind? If they’re as good as this one, then yes. Yes, we do!

It’s backed by the equally hook-filled Busy Signals, with a killer chorus and amazing lines like: “Try my number // When it’s summer // Run your fingers through my heart strings.” Proof that J Waylon’s well of heartbreak-pop inspiration isn’t running dry anytime soon.

The only thing that would make this better? Press it on an actual 45!
