The Maggots were a neo-garage punk rock band from Stockholm, Sweden, founded in the late 1990s and most productive in the first half of the 2000s. The 16 lo-fi songs on this new compilation, aptly titled The (Early) Maggots, reflect their first cool 7″ singles and some previously unreleased tracks that may or may not be rehearsals—all equally raw and raucous, chaotic but cheery. Although these admirable musicians didn’t invent the wheel, they kept it turning in a breathtaking manner, primitive and peppy. Unstoppable madness, loud and proud.
