In a dingy garage in the Bandcamp universe, I came across Home For The Incurable, the third record by singer Labretta Suede and guitarist Johnny Moondog—celebrating their 20th anniversary—intended as a love letter to their fans. The 13 new songs from the Auckland-founded/New York-based rock ‘n’ roll duo are dirty and dangerous, full of swagger and sweat, unpolished and unapologetic. Try to imagine a mash-up of Hole, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, and Reverend Horton Heat, that’s pretty much what you get here. It’s tough and loud, howling and grooving, and refusing to tone it down.
