New album: TH Da Freak || Negative Freaks

"The fun and harshness of Butthole Surfers with the deepness and beauty of Failure"

Negative Freaks is the 15th release in about 10 years from Bordeaux-based singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and Flippin’ Freaks co-founder Thoineau Palis aka TH Da Freak. Only for the first time it is not a solo album, but a real band effort in which the 5 members of the live line-up were part of the whole process, inspired by The Horrors’ Strange House and Nirvana’s Bleach, with the fun and harshness of Butthole Surfers and the deepness and beauty of Failure in mind. A ‘negative scale’ provided guidance for their approach: dissonant and disturbing sounds applied to compositions initially structured like pop songs.

The collective creativity led to 12 idiosyncratic songs, composed in 15 days and recorded live in 4 days. You will understand that this is a noisy and grungy affair—raw, radical and relentless—that comes across as somewhat chaotic at first. Those who open up, will lose themselves in lyrics, riffs and hooks that prove to be quite attractive and accessible after all. A positive feeling dominates.

Negative Freaks—recorded by Benjamin Mandeau—is out now digitally, on CD and vinyl LP, through Howlin Banana Records, Flippin’ Freaks and Les Disques du Paradis. Featuring Thoineau Palis (vocals, guitar), Sylvain Palis (bass, backing vocals), Benjamin Monnereau (guitar), Rémi Palis (keyboards, cowbell) and Quentin Plantier (drums).
