Philadelphia trio Total Whine burst onto the scene with their new self-titled album, out now on Dummest Records—a fresh label launched by the good folks behind Civil Rats. Total Whine delivers a gritty garage punk sound rooted firmly in the ’80s. Their approach combines the raw, no-nonsense appeal of punk rock with a pop sensibility and play them over chunky, straightforward hard rock riffs, creating a mid-paced, attitude-driven collection of catchy tunes that packs a punch.
The album features ten tracks, including nine originals and a fun cover of The Rats’ Running Away From You. It’s an unapologetic celebration of grit and simplicity, and I have no doubt it’ll strike a chord with fans of old-school punk and garage rock alike.
Dummest Records seems to be off to a strong start (they also put out that surprisingly great Log Flume album last year), and with new Civil Rats material on the horizon, this is likely just the beginning. Keep an eye on them—and crank up this album while you’re at it.
