Despite all the darkness, for art the pandemic is also a gift that keeps on giving. During lockdown, Together Pangea‘s frontman William Keegan quietly recorded some new material at home, intended as his first solo output. However, his bandmates felt it necessary to release it under the band moniker to serve their entire fanbase, and here we are. The four songs on the Misery EP are somewhat more subdued than much of their previous work, not surprising given the period of origin, which cannot be missed in the lyrics (like “In my mind a sudden crash // Broken teeth and shattered glass // The walls are still closing in”, from Ativan, or “We got endless time and nowhere to go // Let me ease your mind”, from the beautiful title track). Less raucous, but just as appealing, that’s how good these guys are.
Misery is out now digitally via Nettwerk.
