Golden Shitters is a project where Hamilton-based musicians Matt Ellis (Anxious Pleasers, The Vapids, Flesh Rag), Kyle Fisher (The Dirty Nil), and Dave Tyson (Sam Coffey and the Iron Lungs) indulge their mutual love for raw punk rock, Ramonescore, and slasher movies. Their new EP Love Blows arrives on the heels of their highly enjoyable 2023 debut full-length, and marks the welcome return of Ugly Pop, a label with an impressive back catalog that many (me included) thought had faded away.
The four new songs exemplify the Golden Shitters trademark sound: talented musicians deliberately paring down their songwriting to achieve a raw, aggressive Ramones-inspired aesthetic. While the band can undoubtedly be loud, fast, and obnoxious, they’re also incrementally adding more melody with each release. Strike is arguably their most accessible and pop-oriented tune yet.
