New EP: Hasty || e.p.

Insanely catchy tunes in a loose and ramshackle package created by a pop punk all-star cast

What a banner year for pop punk 2024 turns out to be. In addition to pop punk royalty (The Yum Yums, The Putz, Pavid Vermin, Neon Bone) releasing amazing new music, we also have seen relatively new acts enhancing their reputation (Shivvies, Culture Trap, Angry Adults, Heavy Lag, Bad Crime), and, perhaps my favorite category, surprising and promising new acts pop up (Kryye, Scrapped Plans).

Add Hasty to the latter category. It’s a new band with a veteran presence in Michelle Shirelle (The Steinways, Scrapped Plans), Danny Zajackowski (The Marshmallows), and Mikey Erg (all the bands). The trio play a brand of pop punk that fits perfectly in the “dirt pop” mold of Bloated Kat Records. These first four tunes make an instant impression. They are insanely catchy and come in a loose and ramshackle package. Really, you could slide these songs into your ’90s Lookout! and Mutant Pop playlist and no one will notice this is in fact a new band.

My favorite part about Hasty is that everything about them may sound familiar, but they are very much their own thing, and few bands manage to pull off this sound this well.

Out now on Cassette at Bloated Kat.
