The fuzzy guitars are buzzing on Fast Execution’s debut EP, the tension is palpable. Here is a band that plays loud yet sounds poppy, a band that is fueled by anger and frustration but wrapped those emotions in a seductive and appealing package. Their primary target? “Patriarchal machinations in rock music/modern society at large.”
The sound is a potent blend of grunge, shoegaze, and alt rock, with enough catchiness to reel in fans of power pop and pop punk. Think Bikini Kill’s attitude meets Fastbacks’ hooks. It’s distorted, it’s loud, and it’s impossible to ignore. Give this one a spin if you’re in the mood for some righteous noise with a side of irresistible melodies. The Menses Music EP is out now through Dandy Boy Records.
Fast Execution is a Bay Area project by wife/husband duo, guitarist/songwriter Alex Velasquez (Smile Too Much) and drummer Paul Igaz. Dylan Plisken played bass on the recordings, Alex Halatsis (The 1981) is the band’s live bass player.
