Pobre Orfeu is the garage psych project by Brazilian musician Victor Fortes, based in Sorocaba, São Paulo. Duas Recompensas Sem Nome (translated: Two Unnamed Rewards), his second full-length this year after last May’s Poderia Ser Melhor (Could Be Better), is an adventurous concept album inspired by the iconic work of Sergio Leone and Ennio Morricone. We get nine cinematic instrumentals, set during the westward expansion in 19th century America. Song titles like Dança Dos Coiotes (Dance of the Coyotes) help you to visualize the situations then and there, but actually the wistful guitar music – including galloping horses – says it all.
