Philadelphia-based garage psych duo Echo Kid continues their successful another-album-every-year streak with new one Leaving (You’re Immortal In My Mind). In fifteen lo-fi love songs full of memories, Branz and Cranz aka Brendan McHale (vocals, guitars, bass, percussion, keys, flute) and Christian Turzo-Egan (vocals, guitars, bass, drums, percussion, keys) experiment with tempo, structures and layers, but also in how they use their voices and instruments. It may be jangly, ramshackle and hazy, but it’s all so brutally honest, gripping and inspired, even with some catchy Easter eggs, that I can’t get enough of this versatile exploration trip.
Leaving (You’re Immortal In My Mind) is available on streaming services, also on cassette at live shows, through Castle Crank Records.
