New album: Small Wigs || Small Wigs

After a hiatus of almost ten years, Elvis Kuehn (guitar, vocals) and Mikki Itzigsohn (bass, vocals) are back with their project Small Wigs. Their self-titled debut full-length, also featuring Matthew Zuk (slide guitar) and Max Kuehn (drums, percussion), contains eight potent songs in which tough garage rock, galloping cowpunk and catchy new wave somehow blend well together. The Austin-based band plays it dirty and dangerous at times, just as easily cheesy and danceable, but always charismatic and energetic. You don’t often hear atmospheric slide guitar licks and infectious la-la-la choruses within the same tune, but here it’s the most normal thing. Very nice.

The self-titled Small Wigs album, produced by Elvis Kuehn and recorded/engineered/mixed by Mark Rains, is out now digitally and on cassette (self-released). Also featuring Jeff Turmes (saxophone), Steve Mugalian (drums, percussion), Mark Rains (tambourine) and Paul Body (spoken word) on selected tracks.
