Shook Boys are a wild rock ‘n’ roll four-piece from Toronto, Ontario (Canada), consisting of Murry Robe (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Big Mark (lead guitar), Mack Black (double bass, backup vocals) and Rockin Paddy (drums, backup vocals). They just released their self-titled debut album, although – seven tunes in fifteen minutes – we might call it an EP. The first lines of opening song Can’t Control clearly reflect what this is all about: “Down the mountain there’s a place I know // Where people like to dance hip to hip toe to toe // Across the tracks they got everything you need / / It’s the place that series a booze sex and weed // Bop, rock, no time to talk.” The four musicians enthusiastically play a swinging mix of rockabilly, country, rhythm & blues and garage rock. A vintage sound, but still uplifting in 2023.
Shook Boys’ self-titled album, produced by Ian Robertson and the Shook Boys, is out now digitally (self-released). Also featuring Jesse Whiteley (piano, backup vocals) and Jimmy Bowskill (backup vocals).
