It’s Summer 2023, and while the pandemic has become endemic, and the release of pandemic records is slowing down, there is still music coming out that was recorded out of opportunity and necessity during the lockdowns. Nate Doyle probably picked one of my favorite titles for a pandemic record yet: Welcome To My Breakdown. For those unfamiliar with Nate Doyle, he played alongside Geoff Palmer in The Guts and She’s A Guy. That alone tells you that Welcome To My Breakdown sounds a lot more upbeat that the title implies, even though the themes obviously are filled with dread and longing. Expect to hear pop punk in the vein of Green Day’s Warning LP. Catchy, midpaced and written, played and sung by someone who clearly knows what he’s doing. Highlights include One Memory, Want You Around, Young And Dumb and the title track.
